A group of friends hiking the South Molle Island Bush Walk

New walking track & lookout open at Border Island

October 15, 2018 by Joscelyn O'Keefe

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service announced last Friday that the Border Island walk and lookout is now complete.

The walking track can be accessed from the Cateran Bay anchorage. The 1.2km return, Class 3, stepped track is suitable for people with some bush-walking experience and will be enhanced with interpretive signage in the coming months.

Allow one hour to take on the steep ascent before meandering along the island’s saddle of native grassland to enjoy diverse views from each of the lookouts.

By the looks of this incredible photo taken by Whitsunday Escape this week, you certainly will not be disappointed with the view!

The Whitsundays have many incredible bush-walks, suitable for all abilities.

In early 2018, the Langford island lookout and walk opened as well, which is accessible at mid – high tide via the sand spit extending out from Langford Island. This easy to moderate track is another favourite with cruising yachties and visitors to the islands.

Underway and due for completion at the start of 2019 is another walk and lookout on Whitsunday islands traversing the headland at the south end of Whitehaven Beach. This will offer a unique and great short walk option for day visitors to the beach, when complete.

Let us know what your favourite Whitsunday walks are and we can share them with our Coral Sea Marina Resort community via the Stay, Play, Explore blog!
