Whitsunday Escape has won the Whitsundays’ only gold award at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Sydney on Friday night, 7 February 2014.
Beating an outstanding field of nationwide competitors in the Unique Accommodation category, Whitsunday Escape is proud to be flying the flag for the Whitsundays and the bareboating industry as a whole.
Managing Director of Whitsunday Escape, Trevor Rees, said that he was honoured that a bareboating company had been awarded the top prize in an accommodation category and hopes that it brings greater recognition to the industry as a whole as an exciting and unique way to enjoy a holiday.
Trevor said, “It just goes to show what a unique experience bareboating holidays are.”
“For Whitsunday Escape to be recognized with such a huge honour is humbling.”
“We hope that this award brings greater recognition around the country for bareboating holidays, as it’s something that not a lot of people have done, yet nearly everyone who does is converted and often making it their annual holiday with us,” Trevor said.
One other Whitsundays entrant was a finalist in the Australian Tourism Awards this year. Ocean Rafting was a contender in the Tour and/or Transport Operator category for the second time, after taking out the top gong last year.
“We’re really pleased that Whitsundays business has won a gold award again this year, as it keeps the region on the map. The diversity of experiences you can have in the Whitsundays is so broad, and we hope that travellers come back to the Whitsundays time and time again to experience that diversity.”
“Hopefully, this latest award brings a whole new idea to the minds of travellers when thinking about where to go what to do for their next holiday. We hope it encourages them to come to Queensland in general, and the Whitsundays specifically, to experience something new, even if they’ve been here on a more traditional holiday before,” Trevor said.
With the largest charter boat fleet in the Whitsundays, Whitsunday Escape can also cater to the widest range of group sizes from 2 – 12 people. The fleet offers sailing yachts, sailing catamarans, power cruisers and power catamarans. Boats come fully equipped, much like a self-contained apartment, and Whitsunday Escape can help coordinate all the optional extras such as diving, snorkeling gear, provisioning, watersports equipment, a skipper or sail guide, and so much more.
“The standard of bareboating in the Whitsundays is really quite high compared to the rest of the world, and the Whitsundays is particularly safe. There are 74 islands and countless bays and anchorages within a short sail from each other and protected by the Great Barrier Reef.” Trevor said.
“Plus you’ve got the world-famous Whitehaven Beach and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park to explore at your leisure.”
“It goes to show what a unique experience bareboating really is. Where else can you spend a week or more on holidays and wake up to a different view every day? Once you unpack your bags, stock your boat, you can then put your wallet away, because once you are onboard, there are no more expenses,” Trevor said.
“We know that many locals frequently have friends and relatives visiting, and we would like to encourage them to consider booking a bareboating holiday for their group as a unique way to show them our wonderful part of the world. It can be a very cost-effective way to have a holiday and as this latest award win proves, it’s a unique experience second to none in both Queensland and Australia.” Trevor concluded.
