Press Release 4/5/16 for Immediate release.
“Whitsunday Dreaming” the New Lagoon MY40 arrives in the Whitsundays, the first power lagoon of her kind in charter in Australia. There’s an exciting story behind the name “Whitsunday Dreaming” and her connection to the islands which make her a very special addition to the Cumberland Charter Yachts fleet.
The Story goes she was ordered at the 2015 Sydney Boat Show by Cumberland Charter Yachts share owner Charlie Preen leaving France in October on a ship bound for Sydney. November 2015 she arrived in Port Kembla Australia, where she was readied for charter life in the Whitsundays. Meanwhile the proud owners Cumberland Charter yachts ran a competition to name the new vessel. One of their loyal customers Lin Sarjeant picked the winning name “Whitsunday Dreaming” from a poem she had written some years back, describing her holiday on board another vessel in the Cumberland Charter Yachts fleet.
2016 and the new year arrived, Charlie Preen, and the rest of the “motley” delivery crew boarded the boat in Sydney to bring her north to her new home in the Whitsundays. Stopping in at Coffs Harbour, Southport, Fraser Island, Yeppoon and finally in April 2016 introducing Whitsunday Dreaming to her new home amongst the Whitsunday Isles.
Thanks to her fuel efficiency, long range cruising capacity and stability, the 40 MY is a truly multipurpose boat, whether for short breaks or an extended Whitsunday charter. On deck, the 40 MY offers all the advantages that will guarantee real cruising pleasure, large sheltered cockpit, rigid bimini, convenient steering station, sunbathing area on the cabin top…
Her inside Nauta designed accommodation combines elegance and comfort for 8 – 10 guests boasting 4 double cabins all with ensuites, adaptable saloon table and 2 forward pilot berths.
Once she arrived Cumberland Charter Yachts added a few extra items including a Webber BBQ and Shade to the back deck. They also commissioned a couple of local aboriginal artists from the Ngaro and Gia tribes to design an original piece of artwork to represent her name and place amongst the Whitsunday Isles. General Manager Sharon McNally commented “Whitsunday Dreaming represents the coastal land and sea, cruising the Whitsunday coast, dreaming in the iconic Whitsundays. The imagery used on board had to perfectly represent the regions history and culture. This is why we enlisted the help of the Whitsunday Regional Gallery to coordinate the project, without whom this could not have been possible. A special thanks to Jacinta Beats for her endless passion and assistance on this project.”
The Aboriginal Dreaming was created by a higher power which is called Mother of the Universe. Gubulla Munda, as told by the ancestors, through the dreaming, is a very large carpet snake created for the Gudjuda Gurries of the Whitsunday Islands, Proserpine, Bowen and to the North throughout the Burdekin. The large carpet snake which was created for the Gudjuda Gurries (Whitsunday Clans) is named either Munda Gara or Gubulla Munda dependant on each tribes ancestral dialect, both have the same meaning. Gubulla Munda once formed made its way out to the ocean and lived for many years up and down the Coast living on land and sea. During this time Gubulla Munda would lay its eggs in the ocean which in time turned into islands. On dry land Gubulla Munda travelled over hills and mountains releasing fluid from its body creating rivers and creeks. The Gubulla Munda while travelling on both land and sea would keep a watchful eye on his people and continues to do so today as Gubulla Munda is not dead; only resting. Gubulla Munda has predicted many events in the Burdekin, Bowen, Proserpine and the Whitsunday Islands. ‘Whitsunday Dreaming’ in its design has incorporated the authentic Dreaming of the Whitsundays as told by the ancestral elders of the Gnaro and the Gia tribal Clans. Whitsunday Dreaming’s design also depicts the Eeongee; ancestral Spirit Light which is watching over and specific to the Whitsundays. The Ancestral Spirit Light is the spiritual guardian watching over its people, was and still is the connection to the land. As Gubulla Munda is in a restful state we must remember not to take this dreamtime story lightly, and remember we are privileged to have had it shared.
The first clients boarded in April and spent 6 days on board the MY40 exploring and enjoying Boat hire or Bareboating in the Whitsundays.
