Whilst we experienced an unseasonal September and the wettest winter month in over 30 years, the spring and summer are shaping up to impress. Looking out the window on a day like today, it is easy to understand why may boat owners choose to leave with ‘pride and joy’ in the Whitsundays whilst they head back south for the summer season.
Using the Bureau of Meteorology climate outlook calculators, we can see that the outlook for the rest of October and November for Airlie Beach is looking good. With the average median rainfall for October sitting at 17mm and for November 44mm compared with 64mm and 85mm in Brisbane and 60mm and 74mm in Sydney for the same periods. The long terms forecast for Airlie Beach is also looking favourable in comparison to our southern cousins, with median rainfall locally sitting at 230mm for October – December, whilst Brisbane and Sydney are sitting at 274mm and 241mm respectively. Whilst temperatures in the Whitsundays certainly have warmed over the last couple of weeks, the light winds and calm seas we are experiencing are making for some spectacular cruising weather.
With school holidays over for another couple of months and the whales heading south back to the cold waters of the Southern Ocean, the crowds have disappeared from the Whitsundays waters making it the perfect time to stay, play, explore.
