As major sponsor of the SICYC rendezvous for the third year running, Coral Sea Marina Resort encourages all boaties to get involved with this fun-filled event, which aims to create a network of like-minded boaties, whilst raising much needed funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia at the same time.
With over $288,000 raised to date for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and funding of much needed research projects, this not-for-profit organization was the brain child of Ken & Rhonda Thackeray. Β From its inception 7 years ago, Ken has worked hard to bring together a social network of cruisers and boaties, who enjoy each otherβs company and exchanging cruising stories. 2015 saw over $80,000 raised at the rendezvous alone, which goes to show the incredible support and generosity of the SICYC members and sponsors.
The question is often asked, βwhere is Shag Islet?β and for those who donβt know, Shag Islet is a tiny islet in the Gloucester Passage at the top end of the Whitsunday Islands. It is about the size of a football field and is uninhibited, but it is well worthy of official recognition by all who attend the annual rendezvous.
β4 days/ 3 nights of riotous fun and frivolityβ is how the SICYC describes their annual rendezvous taking place this year from 25 β 28 August 2016 in Gloucester Passage. With over 5000 members affectionately referred to as βShaggers,β spread across 14 countries, the SICYC is calling out for new members to participate in their annual calendar of fund raising events, meet some new friends and join the rendezvous. The rendezvous this year is expecting over 200 boats to moor up in anchorages off Monteβs Reef resort and the Gloucester Eco resort, either side of Shag Islet.
With an action packed program of activities arranged for the weekend the iconic Shag Islet Party, the Hands Across the Blue on-water vessel formation in the shape of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia logo and the annual Parrot Head Party, as well as raffles and auctions for βpirate treasureβ throughout the weekend, and an estimated 1000+ attendees, this yearβs rendezvous is set to be the biggest yet.
Luke McCaul, General Manager explains βCoral Sea Marina Resort is glad to come onboard once again as the major sponsor for this event. It is fast becoming a key event in the cruising season calendar and a great way for boaties to come together and enjoy a weekend on and off the water in the Whitsundays.β
Coral Sea Marina Resort wishes all the βShaggersβ a weekend of calm seas, fun and laughter.
