We are pleased to announce that STS Young Endeavour, Australian’s national Sail Training Ship, has now entered Queensland waters!
Queensland youth aged 16-23 are eligible to take part in their upcoming youth development voyages, sailing from July onwards to ports in Cairns, Airlie Beach, Mackay, Gladstone and Brisbane. Visit the website to find out more about the voyage program.
Since 1988 over 14,000 youth from across Australia have sailed in Young Endeavour, taking part in an inspiring youth development experience. These voyages help participants develop self-awareness and confidence, and give them an opportunity to grow their teamwork and leadership skills through sail training and self-development activities.
During each voyage the ship embarks a crew of young Australians who will learn the skills to sail a square-rigged tall ship, including how to navigate, keep watch, cook in the gallery, set and furl sails, climb the 30 metre mast, and take the helm. They will live ‘between decks’ with fellow youth crew from across Australia, and will be encouraged to pursue personal and team goals. The training culminates in ‘Command Day’ where the youth crew take control of the ship for 24 hours under the watchful eye of the Royal Australian Navy staff crew.
