OCEAN RAFTING CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR WOMEN IN MARITIME
As a multi award-winning, high standard marine operator, Ocean Rafting has been showcasing the Whitsundays for 26 years, always with women at the helm, so to speak, in some shape or form.
To celebrate and recognise women in maritime, Ocean Rafting is inviting all ladies to join them for a day out this Thursday on the Whitsunday waters to celebrate the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) International Day for Women in Maritime, which is observed and celebrated on 18 May every year.
International Day for Women in Maritime celebrates women in the industry and is intended to promote the recruitment, retention and sustained employment of women in the maritime sector, raise the profile of women in maritime, strengthen IMO’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and support work to address the current gender imbalance in maritime.
Whether you’re keen to enjoy a day out with other women and fabulous female crew, curious about a career in the marine tourism or paving your way to working in the beautiful backdrop of the Whitsunday Islands, Ocean Rafting’s special offering on 18 May is a day not to be missed.
If Ocean Rafting’s Southern Lights adventure to Whitehaven Beach isn’t enough, ladies will also be treated to free bubbles on the beach, gift bags with discount vouchers and goodies, prize giveaways and free photos from the day.
As a bonus, local and regional residing ladies can use their Ocean Rafting Squad membership to enjoy a 20% discount for themselves and three of their girl squad.
Owned by long-term locals, Peter and Jan Claxton, not only is Ocean Rafting 50% female owned, but the ratio of female staff to male staff stands at 48% to 52% respectively.
From Skippers, Eco Hosts and Master Reef Guides to Front Office, Accounts, Sales and Marketing, Groups, Catering, HR and Maintenance, females are peppered throughout Ocean Rafting’s core structure.
“Our female ratio is very complementary to our male staffing levels, which creates a dynamic and gender equal workplace, where support and encouragement for growth and development is strongly supported at all levels of employment,” said Jan.
“We promote internally and truly believe it is based on the individual’s personality, performance, passion and desire for growth. This mindset has allowed us to support the personal development of our female staff, who work with us in both shore-based and sea-going posts.”
“Our structure and values reflect a strong culture of gender equality, and we are proud to support women with their unique capabilities. It goes without saying that we are extremely proud of all our staff, and on 18 May, we look forward to celebrating with the ladies and our team of passionate, experienced and incredibly friendly female crew doing what they do best,” said Jan.
