Reef Ecologic’s Whitsundays Tourism Recovery Project will lead in the design, creation and installation of underwater and inter-tidal interpretive art pieces across the Whitsunday region, coral restoration and educational activities.
A selection of art created by Whitsundays sculptor Adriaan Vanderlugt has been installed in the inter-tidal zone on Langford Reef for a number of months whilst the research project is underway. Artworks titled Box Fish 2011, Alu the Box Fish 2012, Nudibranch 2007, and Soldier Crab 2005 by have been acquired to research the social and environmental impact and economic feasibility of this kind of art in the Whitsundays to educate and provide opportunity for coral recovery.
Reef Ecologic have been fortunate to secure funding as part of a $7 million joint State and Federal government funding package set up to help the tourism industry bounce back from Tropical Cyclone Debbie. Reef Ecologic are currently looking for visitors and locals to visit the installation and provide their feedback on the concept and potential future installations throughout the Whitsunday region.
