Fire up and Fundraise for Prostate Cancer Awareness
It’s September: Spring is officially here and the team at Coral Sea Marina are getting ready to don their favourite blue outfits, fire up the BBQ and drum up some awareness for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
Following the success of the inaugural BIG AUSSIE BBQ in 2021, Coral Sea Marina are looking forward to welcoming both visitors and the community back to the Coral Sea Marina Gardens, on Friday 16th September for their 2022 event. The event will consist of a good old-fashioned Aussie barbie, live music, and some family-friendly fun all aimed at raising as much money as possible for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
“This is a cause close to many of our hearts, with one in six Australian men being impacted by prostate cancer,” explains Joscelyn O’Keefe, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Coral Sea Marina.
“The underlying mission of our event is to raise much-needed funds for PCFA research projects but also to provide a relaxed setting where people are encouraged to start a conversation about their health and to get checked regularly.”
Once again joining forces with the Whitsunday Prostate Cancer Support Group and the Rotary Club of Airlie Beach, Coral Sea Marina invites the community to savour good food, savour close friends, and savour conversations that can help to save a life.
John Ryan, founder of the Whitsunday Prostate Cancer Support Group, understands just how helpful these community events can be as an introduction to the support that is out there.
“The Whitsunday Prostate Cancer Support Group is designed to provide information and support to the men and their families who have been diagnosed with, or are undergoing treatment for, prostate cancer,” says Mr Ryan.
“Events such as the Big Aussie BBQ provide the perfect opportunity to reach out and start the conversation.”
The group is held monthly, on the third Wednesday of each month, and details can be found on the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s website.
In true Whitsunday community style, the Big Aussie BBQ is proudly supported by many generous local businesses – Airlie Beach Hotel, Whitsunday Foodservice, Master Butchers Whitsundays, D’Vine Catering and Events, The Prickly Pineapple, Coles, and Rewards. The team from Airlie Amusements has come onboard and there will be soulful tunes from a local live musician, and a helping hand from the Great Barrier Reef Festival team to set the scene.
Marina tour operators Red Cat Adventures, Tallship Adventures and Ocean Rafting have offered up some incredible raffle prizes to bump up the fundraising efforts, so be sure to pick up a ticket or two to be in-with-a-chance-to-win!
100% of the proceeds on the afternoon will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, however you can make a difference at any stage throughout Prostate Cancer Awareness Month by making a donation HERE.
Pop the date in the diary and stroll down to the marina on Friday 16th September at 4.30pm to soak up the views, enjoy a bite, and savour life.
