We are partnering with Tangaroa Blue as part of the ReefClean initiative on their Ditch The Flick campaign to reduce the amount of cigarette butt litter making it into our waterways and polluting the reef.
All butt bins across the marina site now have Ditch The Flick campaign stickers installed, with the aim being to make the bins more visible and encourage smokers to dispose of their butts in the bins provided instead of ‘flicking’ them on the ground. Tangaroa Blue will do regular audits of the marina site to measure the change in volume of cigarette butt litter over time.
As well as a digital and PR awareness campaign, signage at marina events, education through our environmental policy and collaboration with our operators and tenants to communicate the campaign message to their customers, we also will provide visitors with campaign branded pocket butt bins that they can use when out on the water.
We need your empty mint tins!
We are now actively collecting empty mint tins to convert into pocket butt bins. Once branded, we will make these tins available at the marina office reception, at our guest lounges and throughout marina tenancies for visitors to use when out on the water and so they can dispose of their butts responsibly.
To make this happen we need A LOT of empty mint tins. If you are able to collect empty mint tins for this initiative, please drop them at the marina office (open 8.30am – 4.30pm) Monday to Sunday. The more tins we collect, the more impact we can make on reducing the amount of cigarettes butt litter that impacts the Great Barrier Reef.
