Show & Shine events are ready to impress the crowds at the Whitsundays Festival of Motoring held this weekend from May 3-5 across Airlie Beach, Bowen foreshore and Proserpine.
The FREE 3-day jam-packed community event will feature Rally Whitsundays, motorsport festivals, community events, kids activities, dirt bike sprints and plenty more for the entire family to enjoy. But perhaps the most understated activity of them all will be the festivals Show & Shine events that will be held across all three hotspot destinations.
Show & Shine events provide an opportunity for spectators to appreciate classic, restored and modern vehicles amongst the buzzing activities that surround them.
A variety of cars will be on display across the weekend and will begin parading through the streets on Day 1 Friday 3rd from 12 – 4pm at Broadwater carpark and along the Airlie Beach esplanade. From 4pm the Official opening at Coral Sea Marina Resort starts which will feature a moving feast of vehicles that will drive into static position for spectators to enjoy– really ramping up the crowds for what’s to come.
On Saturday May 4 during the Bowen Motoring Festival, the Show & Shine display will provide a contrast to the Rally Whitsundays, with a more relaxed way to enjoy the cars.
Some of the models that spectators can expect to see across the Show & Shine events include Austin Healey Sprite MKIII, 1959 Range Cherio, 59 Skyliner, 1961 Fairlane and a 2003 BA xR8 (Ford).
A 2016 Porsche GT4 Limited Edition model will be on show, handmade in the Porsche Motorsport factory. A total worldwide production of only 2000 of these cars was manufactured, with only 40 of these cars allocated to Australia.
Bruce Absolon from Team Whitsundays said the events will be an important aspect of the Whitsundays Festival of motoring, and whist it is great to be a spectator watching the actual action of an event, it is equally important to closely inspect the vehicles from a wide variety of categories.
“Show & Shine events provide the opportunity for visitors who will most likely be car enthusiasts themselves to interact with classic vehicle owners and talk in a relaxed atmosphere about common interests, and get up close and personal with the cars that they would not normally have the chance to do so,” Bruce said.
“I think the spectators will love the wide variety of cars on display from old classics, muscle cars and modern sports cars.”
Don’t worry, if you miss the Show & Shine Friday and Saturday, Sunday May 5 will see the Show & Shine displays pop-up at the Proserpine Community Event and the Pit Stop Closing Party at Mantra Club Croc. And why not enjoy the Sunday festival unwind at the Mantra Club Croc and take part in the Peoples Choice competition – remember you don’t have go to work on Monday!
