One of the biggest events on the Whitsundays’ social calendar has been made possible by the support of local businesses.
The Whitsundays Clipper Race Carnival is due to take place from January 13 to 29 2018, as a celebration of the arrival of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet in the region.
A raft of events have been organised right across the Whitsundays, and pride should be placed in the fact that local businesses are taking out the places of main event sponsors!
The Bendigo Bank Clipper Race Welcome Party on Friday January 19, will be held on Airlie Beach Foreshore and everyone is invited to the free event, when the Clipper crews will officially be welcomed to the Whitsunday region.
There will be live music by Bubsy Marou, food and drink, market stalls, rides, performances and activities for the kids, with a fireworks display as the finale.
On Saturday, January 20, the Fish D’Vine White on Whitehaven Long Lunch will take place. This very special event will be a feast for the senses as guests dine on fresh local seafood and slow-cooked barbecued meats on Whitehaven Beach, regularly voted one of the best beaches in the world.
Guests will be greeted with champagne and canapes as they step onto the beach following a relaxing cruise across the Coral Sea with Cruise Whitsundays, and will enjoy an afternoon of divine food and sublime views on Whitsunday Island.
The Whitsunday Foodservice Progressive Cruise Lunch, meanwhile, takes place on Sunday, January 21, offering a gourmet day cruising the Coral Sea.
The day will start at Hemingway’s Restaurant, at Coral Sea Marina Resort, where oysters, canapes and champagne will be served, and from there, guests will cruise up the coast to Paradise Cove Resort for a lunch of fresh, local seafood, meats and salads, all enjoyed in a stunning setting right on the oceanfront. Dessert will be at Cape Gloucester Beach Resort, before heading back to Airlie Beach. Wine will be served on arrival at all venues.
Tourism Whitsundays CEO Craig Turner said the Whitsundays Clipper Race Carnival had something for everyone and thanked the sponsors for their support.
“The Whitsundays Clipper Race Carnival has a range of different events to suit everyone and I sincerely thank the sponsors for coming to the party and getting behind the events,” he said.
“It is great to see local businesses getting involved and with their support, I think it is going to be one of the biggest social events this region has ever seen!”
“In recognising sponsors it should be noted that none of this would be possible without the continued support of companies that sponsor events in the region again and again. A big thank you to Tourism Whitsundays Members’ Angel Signs, Paradise Outdoor Advertising, News Corp, Graphic House, Cruise Whitsundays, Grant Broadcasters and Lion Pty Ltd who continue to be great investors of the Whitsunday region.”
There will also be a Rodeo by the Reef, in Bowen, on Saturday, January 27, and a very special once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to race a Clipper yacht around the Whitsunday Islands, on Friday, January 19. There are only 24 spots available so if you want to have the experience of a lifetime you need to book now!
The community will also have the chance to look around the Clipper Race yachts moored in Coral Sea Marina Resort, on January 19 -21 and 25-27, 2018.
The Whitsundays Clipper Race Carnival key funding partners are the Australian Government, Tourism and Events Queensland It’s Live event program, Whitsunday Regional Council, Tourism Whitsundays and Coral Sea Marina Resort.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is the only race of its kind and matches experienced skippers with novice sailors, who can take part in just one leg or every leg of the race, which starts and ends in Liverpool in the UK and takes in Uruguay, South Africa, Australia, China, the USA and Northern Ireland.
The Whitsundays will be the last stop in the Australian leg of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
