Women’s Sail Training in the Whitsundays, with Paper Sailors Rock.
Calling all women who dream to sail! Are you dreaming of taking on something new but you’re unsure of where to start? Hop on board with Netty Hesselmans and learn the ropes in this women’s only Sail Training experience.
A little bit about the Sail Training…
The foundations of the five day / four night sail training will reflect the RYA curriculum for either Competent Crew, Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper. However, the training will also be tailored and reflect the needs and goals of each participant.
Netty’s goal is to develop each participants confidence, knowledge and skills in a safe, nurturing and supportive environment.
The sail training will include:
• Knots
• Maneuvering in tight spaces including departing/entering a berth
• Safety (flares, PFD’s, tethers and jackstays, liferafts, Crew Over Board,
distress calls)
• Navigation (tides and tidal streams, familiarity with charts both electronic
and paper, buoyage systems, fixes, plotting a course to steer)
• Points of Sail
• Sail trim
• Safe downwind sailing (correct use of preventers and spinnaker pole for
goosewinging)
• Anchoring
• Dinghy handling and use of an outboard
• Victualling
• Preventative engine checks
• Road Rules and prevention of collision at sea
• Electronic AIS
There will be a range of different levels of experience aboard so the sail training will be adapted for each participant.
